Gerrards Cross Golf Club

Club Information

Club Structure

The membership structure is that of a traditional members club.

Men

A wide range of honours board competitions, both medal and match-play, are played throughout the year. These are well supported and the operation of a booking sheet makes it easy for new members to find partners. A number of members are involved at County level, both as players and officials. The Men's section currently fields three teams:

1st Team       Captain 2010  -  Gilbert Runnicles

The Gerrards Cross 1st Team will play in the Inter-Counties Scratch League for the 2010 season.

2nd Team    Captain  2010   Ken Moody

Plays other local teams on a friendly but very competitive basis. Most matches are held on a Saturday with the format usually being handicap four-ball better-ball.

Foxes           Captain 2010  -    Gordon Brown

To reflect the opposition provided by the majority of the 12 clubs we play, Foxes are generally accepted as being in the 9-18 handicap range with the exception of Foxes Festivals. There is some flexibility either side of that range and therefore there will be little change in the composition of the team from recent years. Higher single figure players who do not figure in the second team are encouraged to represent the Foxes in games. These fixtures are played in a competitive spirit with good fellowship enjoyed afterwards.

Ladies

The Club has a very active Ladies' Section, with "fun" or qualifying competitions held each Tuesday throughout the year. All competitions are well supported with fields of between 60 and 80.  Several knock-out competitions take place during the summer months. There are also opportunities to play Medal and Stableford competitions on selected Saturdays and Sundays.  A cherished feature of the Ladies section is the prize-giving tea held every Tuesday afternoon. This has become a major forum for exchanges of ideas and an important social occasion, particularly for new members.

The Ladies field Scratch Teams for both the County Winter and Summer Leagues (Silver and Bronze). They also compete in the Bucks Shield Knock- Out competition.  Friendly Matches against other clubs are played between March and October enabling members to play on a wide variety of courses in the area.

Activities away from the course include two Bridge Drives a year for members and guests which are well supported with the proceeds being donated to Charity.

The Ladies' Section is managed by an elected Committee responsible for running all competitions, events and inter-club matches.

LX

These Roman numerals represent the qualifying age for our veterans section. They appoint their officers, including Caesar (Captain), annually. They have a roll-up early on Monday and Wednesday mornings, play matches against eight local clubs and other club sections, medals, match-play competitions and group outings. Members under 60 may play as "cadets". A significant amount is raised by the section for charity.

Artisans

Whilst many clubs have disbanded or absorbed their Artisans, our section at Gerrards Cross continues and enjoys an excellent relationship with the parent club. Indeed, the regular matches between the Artisans and other sections of the golf club are keenly contested and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Juniors

Organiser - Peter Hewitt

The club has a large and very active junior section which relies mainly on the efforts of volunteer members who organise the coaching, competitions and matches with other clubs.

Cygnets

A  category of membership aimed at  young boys & girls as an introduction to golf.  They  receive monthly coaching sessions and during practice on the course they are accompanied by an adult members who teach  them the basic rules of golf and etiquette. Once confident and able they can  progress to Junior membership.

Social

Gerrards Cross Golf Club is renowned in the area for its wide range of events.  The Social Committee does its upmost  to provide members and their guests with a good mix of entertainment throughout the year. There are also regular Bridge sessions held at the club during the winter months, organised by volunteers.
